-MUSIC-

Music fans will be spoiled for choice with both established and rising stars of the Irish music scene playing across the weekend as well as international talents.

Headlining this year’s festival will be the bewitching and dreamlike sounds of Hilary Woods, the Dublin native who is Sacred Bones’ newest signee, with a intimate show in the beautiful surrounds of the Triskel Christchurch. Electronic house-pop duo Le Boom return to the festival after a incredibly successful couple of years with their powerful live show that is well known to start any dance party. Landless are a traditional Irish vocal group from Dublin and Belfast who sing unaccompanied

traditional songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America in four-part harmony. Another returning act is Cork’s own neo-soul R&B act Shookrah who have just released brand new single Flex into the world. Blending elements of Irish and English folk with a deeply unique sensibility is Junior Brother the 24 year old Co. Kerry native. Fusing together the genres of punk, electronic, krautrock, trad and techno Post Podge and the Technohippies have wowed audiences up and down the country with their incredibly intense live show.

There’s plenty more music to be found, including: Ghostking is Dead, Extravision, Laurie Shaw, Silverbacks, Eve Clague, Rising Damp, Spekulativ Fiktion, Barry Wilson, Yenkee, Sam Clague, Maija Sofia, Trick Mist, Anna Mieke, Lonely Tourist and Gaptoof. Friday night sees Dali being taken over by some of the best DJs in the country: Laura Lolz, Cáit, Endrift, Eliza and a live performance by downtempo electronic act Gadget & the Cloud. Dublin Digital Radio will return to the festival to broadcast the station live featuring some of their Cork hosts.

-PUBLIC ART-

For 2019 edition, the Public Art Programming of Quarter Block Party is mainly comprised of two key projects - Beats and Sweat, a new commission of Spanish choreographer Esther Rodriguez-Barbero in collaboration with Stevie G, responding to the now derelict site of the Sir Henry's nightclub on South Main Street developed with support from Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and Common Ground a collection of six new works mapping the street from diverse perspectives and offering a moment to reflect on the freedom of cities and the shifting makeup of local communities. 19 artists from six European cities propose us ways to look at our own neighbourhood through a parade of imaginary neighbours, public workshops , interventions searching for the meaning of freedom, a giant hopscotch game, participatory mapping, public outdoor screenings, and the launch of the book '(Un)Common Neighbours' as a culmination of a year of research and learning within the framework of the Common Ground project realised together with six European partner institutions  with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union that took place across two inner-city streets in Budapest (Hungary) and Cork in 2018.

-LIVE ART-

The festival are putting the body front and centre this year welcoming the new, the political and the sometimes overlooked in a celebration of everything that makes us bold and beautiful!

The critically acclaimed TIME OUT Performer of the Year SCOTTEE joins the bill with his production FAT BLOKES. Fat Blokes is a (sort of) dance show about flab, double chins and getting your kit off in public. Fat Blokes uncovers why fat men are never sexy but always funny, always the ‘before’ but never the ‘after’ shot. Trans Live Art Salon will platform the work of trans and gender non-conforming artists based in Ireland, and creating resources for the Irish trans community. Their Fully Automated Luxury Gender Oasis debuted at Dublin Fringe Festival, 2018 and was the winner of the Spirit of Fringe award. Local Heroes Lords of Strut after their notorious antics in Tony’s Bistro during the festival in 2017 return with brand new show DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA in style at Firkin Crane. The show celebrates 10 years of Strut, A Mythical Memoir of Dance & Destiny. Hanan Sheedy and No Kissin’ Ensemble will present brand new work UNDERGROUND which will weave the audience into a ritual party with their unique blend of music and theatre. Two duets from North America; Canadians Ben and Gabi Kamino; Son and Mother will perform their tender duet m/other and we will welcome back 2017 festival hit Allie Hankins with Rachael Dichter all the way from USA with When We.

And last but not least, organisers require participants for NAKED BOYS READING - An International Literary Salon. They’re seeking readers who identify as a “boy” (or wish to for an evening!) for a paid reading at the festival. The event will be curated by a top secret special guest, we’ll be pulling out all the stops for an evening of naked readings, drinks, and consensual practice of the rhythm method.

Early booking is advised for this jam packed weekend! Bundle Pass (3 show pass) €25 + booking fee / Super Bundle Pass (6 show pass) €50 + booking fee. All  shows are also individually priced and on sale from uTicket.ie Tuesday 11th December at 10am. More information from quarterblockparty.com
