De bhunadh Chill Dara é Mícheál Ó Catháin agus clú bainte amach aige mar dhuine den ghlúin nua a chasann cláirseach.”

From Kildare, Mícheál Ó Catháin has achieved recognition as one of the new generation playing cláirseach”

-The Irish Times

Mícheál plays an intimate acoustic concert of early Irish harp and song in the beautiful Primate's Chapel in Armagh, sharing pieces arranged over the past year under an Arts Council of Ireland Traditional Music Bursary. These pieces were originally collected from Denis O'Hampsey of Magilligan in 1792, by Armagh's own Edward Bunting. Mícheál plays a copy of Denis' Downhill harp, playing its metal strings with fingernails in the sean-nós or old style, accompanying his own singing.

The concert also features short films from three unique and in-depth multimedia interviews recorded between 2012 and 2018 with leading early Irish harpers Ann Heymann, Paul Dooley, and Javier Sáinz. These form the first three of five in the Early Irish Harp: State of the Art interview series (michealocathain.com/interviews), funded by the Arts Council of Ireland Deis Recording & Publication Award.
