Javier Sáinz returns to Ireland to play an intimate acoustic concert of early Irish harp music in the beautiful Arts & Culture Centre at McAuley Place in Naas. From the Atlantic coast of northern Spain, Javier is a pioneer in the revival of the early Irish harp. Deeply rooted in Cantabrian and Galician culture with its rich Celtic connections, Javier has long been fascinated by the early culture, poetry and music of Ireland and Scotland. As well as his own native early Spanish harp music, he plays Irish and Scottish music of the 16th to 18th centuries on his replica of the Lamont Harp: a brass-wire and gold strung early Scottish cláirseach from c.1500.

The concert launches a unique and in-depth multimedia interview with Javier, as part of the Early Irish Harp: State of the Art interview series ( Interview trailer will be featured on the night.

Support from Mícheál Ó Catháin on early Irish harp and voice, performing pieces from Denis O'Hampsey, the oldest of the harpers at the 1792 Belfast harp meeting.

This event is supported by Kildare County Council Arts Service, Harp Ireland / Cruit Éireann, and An Chomhairle Ealaíon, as part of Lá na Cruite National Harp Day 2018
