Friday November 15th, the fabulous Cantate presents 'An Evening of Song' with Amsterdam based vocal group Koor Rook with special guest Ryan Morgan at Live At St Luke’s.
The little choir with the big personality, Cantate is an award-winning, vibrant, mixed voice choir based in Monkstown, Co. Cork. Cantate has a very extensive and wide-ranging repertoire and, with the virtuosity of Tom Doyle on piano and the very talented Elaine Kelly as Musical Director, who is a highly-accomplished choral and orchestral conductor.
They are joined Koor Rook, a powerful and youthful bunch that has been singing together for three years. Each enthusiastic singer was chosen for their vocal qualities as well as a background in the world of musical theatre. The choir came together to share a love for singing beautiful harmonies and enjoy nothing more than showcasing their talents to a wide range of audiences.
Elaine Kelly is a multi-award-winning choral and orchestral conductor based in Ireland. She was appointed Irish National Opera (INO) Studio Conductor for 2019/20 and is assistant conductor and chorus master on many of INO’s productions this season. She is also conductor of the University of Limerick Orchestra, and musical director to the highly-successful choir, Cantate.
In 2014, Elaine won first prize in the inaugural ESB Feis Ceoil Orchestral Conducting Competition - the highest ranking competition of its kind in the country. This culminated in her professional conducting debut with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in the National Concert Hall (NCH), Dublin. She was subsequently invited to conduct RTÉCO as part of the orchestra’s Summer Lunchtime Concert Series in 2016.
From 2017-2019, she was musical director of the Dublin Symphony Orchestra and performances included the orchestra’s 50th anniversary Gala in the NCH in 2018. Elaine was assistant conductor with Irish Youth Opera [now Opera Collective Ireland], in their production of Handel’s Agrippina with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and in association with Northern Ireland Opera. She has also conducted the Cork Concert Orchestra, CSM Symphony Orchestra, City of Cork Symphony Orchestra [now Cork Fleischmann Orchestra] and the Fleischmann Choir.
Elaine graduated from the CIT Cork School of Music (CSM) with an Honours BMus degree in 2011 and again in 2013 with a First Class Honours Masters Degree in Conducting under the tutelage of Alan Cutts. She has since received masterclasses from renowned conductors including John Farrer, Denise Ham, Robert Houlihan, George Hurst, Toby Purser, Rodolfo Saglimbeni and Neil Thomson.
TOM DOYLE - Accompanist
A graduate of both UCC and CIT Cork School of Music, Tom Doyle is highly sought after as a musical director and pianist in Cork City and its environs. With a keen interest in both musical theatre and opera, Tom’s credits as musical director have included the world premiere of Pubcrawl: the Musical (Chattyboo Productions), I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Chattyboo Productions), American Idiot (CIT Musical Society), Songs for a New World (Hibernian Ensemble), The Opera Director based on Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, The Last Five Years (Scruffy Duck Productions), (UCC Dramat) and Ragtime (UCC Dramat). Alongside production engagements, Tom works extensively with local stage-schools (CADA Performing Arts, Montfort College, Centre Stage School Mallow, Kilshanna Music Studio) and accompanies at Feis Maitiú where he has been an Official Accompanist since 2015.â€‹
As a choral enthusiast, Tom has had the pleasure of working with the Fleischmann Choir, Cork ETB Youth Choir, the Cork Garda Male Voice Choir, and Cantate, to name a few.
An accomplished pianist and répétiteur, Tom has worked with many singers including Cara O’Sullivan, Majella Cullagh, Mary Hegarty, Joe Corbett, Emma Nash, and Jean Wallace, as well as with ensembles such as Irish Youth Opera, Cork Operatic Society, CSM Opera Platform, the Cork Concert Orchestra and the Band of the First Brigade. Tom lectures in conducting at the CIT Cork School of Music.
